The mission of Franklin County Humane Society is to care for our area’s homeless animals, to re-home as many animals as possible, and to improve animal welfare throughout our community. As an open-admission shelter, we accept all cats and dogs in need. We are an independent 501c3 organization, and we are contracted by the City of Frankfort and the Franklin County Fiscal Court for animal control services. Our most recent animal statistics
We have wonderful dogs, cats, puppies and kittens available for adoption. We accept animals surrendered by citizens at no charge, and we care for lost, stray and homeless animals. We offer low-cost spay and neuter services to the public. We also offer micro chipping and city licensing. We work to educate the public about animal welfare. We frequently hold community events such as portable adoptions and fundraisers.
Our Team:
Our staff includes an Executive Director, Shelter Director/Manager, Veterinarians and assistants, receptionists, and animal care workers. Our team also includes our Board of Directors, our wonderful and extensive group of volunteers, our generous corporate sponsors and private donors, and our network of members. Everyone is welcome and invited to become a volunteer, donor, or member. You can sign up to be a member for a minimum of $25 by submitting this form with your membership dues.
Our shelter manager is responsible for day-to-day operations, and major decisions are made by the Board of Directors in collaboration with the shelter manager. Members of the Board of Directors are recommended by the Board's nominating committee which includes society members and volunteers. The Directors set policy and budget. We also have coordinators for the various areas of our organization that is headed up by volunteers.
Thrift Store: In addition to our shelter and shelter activities, FCHS proudly owns A New Leash on Life Thrift Store. The store was founded by one of our volunteers, and has a part-time paid manager. The store is otherwise staffed entirely by volunteers and proceeds go to support the Franklin County Humane Society.
Feeders Supply: In addition to our shelter and thrift store, we also house cats at Feeders Supply in Frankfort that are available for adoption during their business hours. The paperwork and fees are the same as at the shelter facility.
